New or returning to yoga? You’re in the right place ✴︎
If you’re new - or coming back after some time away - it’s completely normal to feel unsure. You might be wondering if you’ll keep up, if you’ll do it wrong, or if you’ll feel out of place.
I want you to know there is nothing you need to be before coming to class. You don’t need to be flexible, strong, or know what anything is called. Yoga is about meeting yourself where you are and that changes for everyone day to day, season to season.
What my ☾lasses are like
We begin slowly and gently. You’ll arrive, roll out your mat, and take a few moments to settle. I’ll guide you through the class in clear, plain language, letting you know what’s coming and offering options throughout.
We move at an unhurried pace, warming the body with simple, familiar movements and a small number of foundational poses. You’ll always be encouraged to bend your knees, rest, or use support if you need to. Nothing should be forced and nothing needs to be rushed in class.
And just so you know - you never have to “keep up”. If you came to class and spent the whole time sitting or lying on your mat, breathing and resting, you would still be doing yoga and I wouldn’t mind at all! Listening to your body is the practice.
✴︎ Breath - it matters more than you think
One of the things beginners and returners often forget is the breath - and it’s the most important part of yoga!
Your breath helps your body feel safer and more comfortable. When the breath is steady and easeful, the nervous system moves from “fight and flight” to “rest and digest”, muscles tend to release, and movement often feels more spacious. Sometimes, simply breathing well can create more room in a pose than pushing ever could.
Throughout class, I’ll gently remind you to return to your breath - not to control it, but to let it support you.
My hope for you
My hope is that you feel welcome, safe, and unhurried. Safe enough to rest when you need to. Welcome enough to move at your own pace. And unhurried enough to actually notice how your body feels.
By the end of class, you might feel calmer, more grounded, or simply more at home in your body. Even small shifts count!
☾ommon worries
“I’m really stiff.” - That’s okay. Yoga helps with stiffness gently and over time. We start where you are.
“I’m nervous or haven’t moved much.” - Very normal. We use the breath to guide the pace, and you can always choose a simpler option.
“I have an old injury.” - Please let me know before class. I’ll offer alternatives and encourage you to listen to your body.
“I can’t sit cross-legged.” - No problem at all. There are always other ways to sit or rest.
✴︎ What to bring & wear
Please bring yourself and a yoga mat. Wear anything comfortable that you can move in - layers are helpful, especially for relaxation at the end. Yoga is usually barefoot, but grip socks are fine if you’re really uncomfortable with your toes out. Bring water if you like, and try to arrive a few minutes early so you don’t feel rushed.
What progress really looks like
Progress isn’t about how a pose looks. Often it shows up quietly — in softer shoulders, steadier breathing, better sleep, or noticing tension and letting it go. These small changes are meaningful. They’re the reason we practise.
Returning after time away
You’re not starting from scratch. Your body remembers more than you think. Take it slow, choose the gentler option, and give yourself time to settle back in. Yoga rewards patience.
✴︎ An invitation
If you’re looking for slow, nourishing, beginner-friendly yoga, I’d love to welcome you. Come as you are - move, rest, or simply breathe. All of it counts.
